CapsWiz FAQ
CapsWiz

Q: If I register, will I get a discount on future versions?

A: Actually, any future versions of CapsWiz will be free to registered users! In the case that a future version requires a different type of password, registered users can request a new password by email.

Q: I keep hitting the CapsLock key by accident -- I want to permanently disable the CapsLock key. Can CapsWiz do this for me?

A: CapsWiz wasn't really designed just to permanently disable the CapsLock, but it can be done. (And it's apparently what a lot of people use it for). By erasing all of the preset window settings (leaving only "Default State ") you should check "Always OFF" and "Disable Key" for the CapsLock. This will constantly scan the status of the CapsLock and turn it off if you accidentally press it.

Q: In which operating systems has CapsWiz been successfully used?

A: Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP

Q: My screensaver won't come on after installing CapsWiz. What do I do?

A: Try the "Screen Saver Protector" option.

Q: The CapsLock/NumLock keys don't seem to be toggling reliably, can I do anything about this?

A: On some rare computers running Win95/98, the default method used by CapsWiz for toggling the CapsLock and NumLock keys does not work reliably. If you find this to be the case with your computer, turn on the "Key Simulation Option" (in the File menu). With this option enabled, CapsWiz uses another method whereby it simulates pressing and releasing the key in question.

Q: CapsWiz is shareware. What does that mean?

A: Shareware distribution gives users a chance to evaluate software before buying it. Following the try-before-you-buy concept, CapsWiz has a 40-day evaluation period during which time you can use the software without obligation. CapsWiz is presented as "What-you-see-is-what-you-get" -- use the trial period to decide if you like it.

Q:Will CapsWiz work on my computer?

A: Almost certainly. Although a handful of people have reported CapsWiz will not work for them, the vast majority of users have no problems. Since the trial period allows over a month of unlimited usage, you have plenty of time to see if CapsWiz works for you, the way you want it to. The trial period gives you the confidence that you won't be purchasing software only to find that it doesn't work the way you expected.

Q: Will the hot-key functionality work in all of my programs?

A: CapsWiz uses three preset key-combinations for its hot-key functionality. While the CapsWiz hot-key functionality will work fine in most programs, there are a few that use duplicate hot-key settings (MS Outlook, for example). In these cases, they may override the CapsWiz settings. CapsWiz and the program in question will continue to operate as normal with the exception of the CapsWiz hot-keys. Of course you can always redefine hotkeys in CapsWiz to avoid conflicts (e.g. use [Ctrl]+[Win]+[R] for "Reverse Highlighted Text").

Q: I have to install CapsWiz on a bunch of machines. Is there a way to do an automated install or a silent install of CapsWiz?

A: If you bought a multi-computer license we can provide you with some tips that should make your job easier. Just let us know by email (and make sure to include your registration information in the request).

Q: I purchased CapsWiz but don't understand how to use it, can I get some telephone support?

A: No. Technical support is limited to email only. Also, please note that the trial period was designed specifically with the "try-before-you-buy" concept in mind. If you run into problems during the trial period, contact us for help. If you still can't get CapsWiz working or don't like the way it works, please don't register it!
